Today we planned a trip to a beautiful, carribean-like island next to Vigo. Only a few people are allowed to visit this special island because it’s a biosphere reservation. Luckily, the Pelican has a good relationship with Vigo, so we have the permission to visit. Since we could not anchor right in front of it, we went by motorboat to the island of Cies. When we reached the beach, we were very surprised because we felt like we were in the Caribbean. The beach looked beautiful because of the turquoise water and the white sand.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t much sunshine and you could see some clouds. We then went on a hike to a lighthouse from which we had a stunning view over the whole island. And we were lucky: the sun was shining bright when we returned to the beach and so we decided to go swimming in the turquoise seawater. We all ran together into the sea. As you can imagine, the water was freezing cold. But it was definitely worth it. Out first time not only ON, but finally also IN the water!

A secret recipe

Back on the ship we had lunch and like always the food was amazing and we got a yummy surprise. The cooking group made delicious orange cake! Since everyone loved it, I asked for the recipe, which I would like to share with you here:

Ingredients:

  • 180g Butter
  • 180g Sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 170g Flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 oranges

You have to mix the butter with the sugar, then you put 3 eggs in it. After that you need the flour and a bit of milk. Afterwards you put 1 teaspoon of baking powder into the dough. And then you grate 2 oranges (or for a lemon cake 2 lemons). In the end you mix everything and bake the cake at 180°C.

Moving on

At 08:30 we pulled our anchor and we were ready for setting sails. In order to do this, some of us climbed up to the sails. The view on top is breathtaking. We waved the islands goodbye and started to sail. The wind will take us to our next destination Morocco.
