Volker – Our Captain:

N: How old are you?
V: Seventy-five years old.
N: Could you briefly describe your career?
V: First, I studied to become a sailor, later I studied nautical science to become a captain.

N: How did you become a member of Clipper?
V: After the seafarer training, I joined Clipper shortly after it was founded.

N: Where do you come from?
V: Büdeldorf near Rendsburg in Schleswig-Holstein.

N: What will be your highlight of the trip?
V: The Atlantic crossing and the beautiful deep blue sea.

N: When do you have to leave us again?
V: Bocas del Toro in Panama.

Rüdiger – Our Mechanic: (actually the brother of Volker)

N: How old are you?
R: Sixty-seven.
N: Could you briefly describe your career?
R: I studied ship mechanics, worked as a mechanic for cargo ships, and later worked at an industrial insurance company until 2020 when I retired.

N: How did you become a member of Clipper?
R: Through my brother, who always asked me to join him.

N: Where do you come from?
R: Rendsburg in Schleswig-Holstein.

N: What will be your highlight of the trip?
R: My highlight will definitely be Cape Verde because they have always fascinated me.

N: When do you have to leave us again?
R: I’m going to leave in Bermuda.

Frank – Our First Mate:

N: How old are you?
F: Sixty-eight years old.
N: Could you briefly describe your career?
F: I worked as a tax adviser and auditor on my way to retirement. Also, I’m happily married, and we have four children.

N: How did you become a member of Clipper?
F: I started sailing in school and found Clipper through a friend.

N: Where do you come from?
F: Nordrhein-Westfalen.

N: What will be your highlight of the trip?
F: If there’s nice, strong wind and we can sail for a long distance.

N: When do you have to leave us again?
F: Martinique, but I will join you again in Bermuda.

Thees – Our Second Mate: (a.k.a. Der Flamingo-Donutsockenmann)

N: How old are you?
T: Fifty-eight.
N: Could you briefly describe your career?
T: Salesman and IT specialist. Now I’m working as a self-employed manager for data protection.

N: How did you become a member of Clipper?
T: My dad was a captain at Clipper and took me on some journeys as a kid.

N: Where do you come from?
T: Hamburg.

N: What will be your highlight of the trip?
T: To skip the cold, depressing winter at home in Germany.

N: When do you have to leave us again?
T: In Martinique.

Reinhard – Our Third Mate

N: How old are you?
R: I am seventy-five years old.
N: Could you briefly describe your career?
R: I studied to become a sailor for three years, and later, together with Volker, I studied nautical science to become a captain in the end.

N: How did you become a member of Clipper?
R: I was a bit interested in sailing and was later basically dragged in by Volker.

N: Where do you come from?
R: I was born in Aachen.

N: What will be your highlight of the trip?
R: To get some variation from home and change some routines.

N: When do you have to leave us again?
R: I am leaving in Martinique.
