Welcome to our Last Blog Ever… 🙁

Well, we were planning on doing a video for this final post, but unfortunately, the videos got deleted… 🫠. So here we are with the written word!

A Scenic Hike on Pico Island

Our day started early, as we had an exciting adventure ahead – a trip to Pico Island. After catching the ferry in the morning, we set off on our journey across the Atlantic waters.

Upon arrival, Malte, our ever-enthusiastic guide, announced that we’d go hiking. As you can imagine, everyone was less than thrilled since we had just completed a 26 km hike two days ago 🙄. However, the trail wasn’t as bad as expected.

Along the way, we discovered fascinating UNESCO Heritage sites, including ancient ruins and the adorable crabs that call the rocky shores their home. The landscape was stunning, and it reminded us why hiking in places like the Azores is worth the effort.

But then, after a few kilometers, Malte made a welcome announcement: We had earned free shore leave for the rest of the afternoon! Julius, Hannes, Benni, Noam, Anna, Olivia, Juno and I were not going to walk the three km back to where we started. Instead, we opted for a bus ride and it turned out to be a fantastic choice. The free time allowed us to relax, explore the area at our own pace and enjoy the island’s tranquil atmosphere.

An evening of Pizza and Relaxation

As the day came to an end, we treated ourselves to some well-deserved pizza 🍕. It was the perfect way to wind down after a day of hiking and exploring. We spent the evening enjoying each other’s company, reflecting on our time together and, of course, savoring the delicious food.

That was our day on Pico Island, one we won’t forget! 🥸

A Little More About Pico Island

For those unfamiliar, Pico Island is the second-largest island in the Azores archipelago and is known for its iconic Mount Pico, the highest peak in Portugal. The island’s volcanic landscapes offer incredible hiking opportunities, including paths that lead to the summit of Mount Pico, where climbers are rewarded with breathtaking views over the surrounding islands.

Aside from the natural beauty, the island has a rich history with historic vineyards, which are recognized by UNESCO for their unique terroir and picturesque coastal villages that dot the shoreline.

Whether you’re into hiking, nature walks, or just relaxing by the sea, Pico Island offers something for every traveler.

That wraps up our journey for today. We’re sad this is the last blog post, but we’ve made memories that will last a lifetime. Thanks for following along on our adventures!
