POV: You have been on a ship for six months only to realize that the packing list needs to be revised from top to bottom.

So here you go: Things that are on the packing list but are unnecessary or need adjustment:

  1. Trekking backpack with 50-60L → Rather 70L, space is scarce.
  2. Jute bag → If you don’t want to replace your daypack with it, it’s rather unnecessary.
  3. Fanny pack → A matter of personal preference.
  4. 1 roll of duct tape → Better bring 2-3.
  5. Wristwatch → EVERYWHERE!!!! It’s annoying when you’re constantly asked for the time.
  6. Crocs → Your most important shoes. You only need all the others a few times.
  7. Underwear for 2 weeks → More like 4. The socks are not only eaten by the dryer but also stolen.
  8. Sports jacket → You can bring it, but I’d recommend the oilskin that you get anyway.
  9. Sleeping clothes → Unnecessary, everyone sleeps in underpants anyway.
  10. Rain jacket → Like the sports jacket, oilskins are great.
  11. Summer sleeping bag → In Costa Rica, everyone froze at night… So a winter one is better.
  12. Cuddly blanket → Best thing you can pack.
  13. Sunscreen → Absolutely coral-friendly (shoutout to Antonio).
  14. Laundry nets → Super practical in combination with laundry bags.
  15. Tablet → Almost everyone has an iPad and AirDrops everything, so you’re pretty much screwed without it…
  16. School books → Pack as few as possible. You only really need Math, Physics, Chemistry and German.
  17. 2 passport photos → Never used, no idea what they do here.
  18. Movies → THE MORE, THE BETTER. You can never have enough.
  19. Camera → Many have a GoPro, but normal ones work too.
  20. PS → A disposable camera can make for funny moments…
  21. MP3 player → For some, the most important item on the boat.
  22. Board and card games → Be sure to pack Monopoly.
  23. 2x combination adapter → One is enough, but don’t lose it!!!!
  24. 1 reel of cord → At least 50m.
  25. Packing cubes for all clothes → Ultra important!!!!
  26. Shoe organizer → A must!!!
  27. Power banks → Essential for anyone with a tablet/laptop.
  28. Favorite recipes → Especially for cookies, brownies, and cakes.
  29. Advent calendar → Prefer pictures to chocolate.
  30. Own mug → Completely unnecessary, there are cool ship mugs.
  31. Hammock → Really cool, biggest recommendation.
  32. Jukebox → The bigger, the better.
  33. Nasal spray → Will be taken from you anyway.

And now a little special with the items that are not on the packing list but should be:

  1. Candy supply → Personal recommendation: Invest at least 20-30€ here (they are gone quickly).
  2. Date stamp → Only if your name is Hannes.
  3. Handkerchiefs
  4. Stand-up pen → Only if your name is Ella.
  5. A fan → Some cool air is the key to getting sleep in the warm months.

Note:

Johannes: Habe mich riesig gefreut, euch alle wieder zu Hören. Sagt bitte Leo N., dass mein Handy leider weggenommen wurde, bevor ich antworten konnte. Habe mich aber riesig gefreut. ❤️
