Today we started school again with English and individual classes. English was pretty interesting, after a little talk about characterisations we had a short introduction in philosophy. Jacob found a nice book in a second hand bookstore in Curaçao. It was about Plato’s cave. (Look that up!) Than for individual class we all did our own stuff, like always. Me for example calculated trough my math exam.
Gang Shit (Short report from Marlene, an eye whitness)
At 16:00 today Theo and I had to do heads and showers. In the boys shower we came across a very… interesting… surprise. There was literal shit swimming on the ground- wonderful! At first we thought someone had shit in the shower, then we saw that the OTHER boys shower also had shit in it (gang shit?). Anyways, Theo got the high pressure pump so we would flush it away but it was no use, because the shit water just kept bubbling up again and again (lovely)… Brian tried to pump the shit again from the engine room because there was a possibility that it simply hadn’t been pumped recently. Turns out, that wasn’t the problem. Then we thought someone had pumped the shit incorrectly, but because the grey water and shit pump worked independent to one another, there has to be some kind of leak (?). Eventually we decided to open up the bilge, where we were able to appreciate shit swimming back and forth in the grey water (not good!). At the moment it’s all going down in the boys bathroom because our sails are set on port side and all our (girls) fingers are crossed that we won’t be tacking any time soon. Anyways, with some experiments being done in the engine room, the problem managed to be solved eventually (though this did lead us to have to refer back to our beloved salt-water-buckets to flush he toilet for a couple hours). *Update* Apparently the girls toilet was constantly flushing, which caused the tank to overload and leak into the Bilge… But no need to stress, everything was taken care of by our skilled crew and trainees, making it yet another eventful day on the Reggie:)
A short text from Ruben…
All the while we had also a generator that overheated that happened because we where solving the water in bilge: We closed the water inlet. The Bilge could be pumped out faster, of course then we had to shut down the watermaker and we forgot the cooling of the Genny (Generator). In the end everything worked out though, Martin and Ruben and the other solved everything, also in meanwhile Jakob and Justus were busy making Anker winch smooth again. No worries, though eight things going on in the same time, it is a normal day on the Reggie and the crew is super capable.
Jacob and Flo Bro are back together in one cabin and their bromance is as strong as ever! We don’t get to see them anymore. Only together and always smiling.
It’s going down
As you may know, ships on the sea tend to roll from side to side. Yeah and then stuff falls down all the time. Goddamn we still haven’t learnt to secure our stuff heheheheheheheh
There’s always work
Another day, another round sail-handling. When I was about to pack the outer jib, I noticed a slit of 30 cm. I was told to glue the sail together. For that we needed a brush, wich was stored under the wheelhouse in a small storage area full with this and that. We were told, if we were already looking for the brush, we should just empty the whole area and store it again properly afterwards. So one lead to another. Ending up with now climbing back up in the bowsprit, fix the sail and then finally pack it.
