The first day on Carlos Coffeefarm

At 08:00 it was breakfast time. We had some yummy rice with a peace of pineapple and a cooked banana.

Coffee picking

After the breakfast Carlos, the owner of the farm, showed us how to pick the coffee, which coffee is ready to pick and which not. We learned a lot. After his short introduction we started in groups of two with a bucket. We had a small competition, wich group picked the most and the best coffee. Philipp and Jonathan won. After 2-3 hours of picking we were all really hungry and had some delicious rice with chicken and salad for lunch.

Roller Coaster on the Coffeefarm

After lunch we jumped on one of Carlos cool pickups and we did a really cool and interesting tour. The drive was not that much different to a Roller Coaster. Carlos showed us his whole coffee farm. He explained us the difference between commercial coffee and fair trade good quality coffee. We also collected the coffee from some of his pickers. We learned how much they earn and understood how hard their jobs actually are how we experienced in the morning. Today I also met Victor. He is one of the pickers, he is just fourteen years old, how I am too. That really shocked me because I could be in the same situation as the picker everyday too, if I wasn’t born in Germany where I can go to school.

Relaxed evening

After the really nice trip with Carlos in the back of his pickup truck we had some free time. We checked out the main road and found some mini supermarket and stuff like this. For dinner we had Spaghetti Bolognese. After a small presentation from Helena, our expert for economics who is also including Ocean College as part of on of her studies, we had a small campfire and roasted some marshmallows.

All in all it was a really really nice first day in Costa Rica with much interesting knowledge about coffee. I’m really looking forward to the next days here on the Coffeefarm and he Expis, in the surf hostel and on Kens farm in the Urwald.

Alles Gute zum Geburtstag Papa. Hab‘ dich lieb. Adam ❤️❤️❤️

Juno: langsam vermisse ich euch alle
