The first times

Many first times, but definitely not the last times.

The first time on galley duty:

Pretty funny, even though you’ve got to get used to everything swinging back and forth. Unless you’re seasick; then it’s kind of impossible.

The first time setting sails (still in the harbour):

Why are there so many ropes?! And why are we taking them down immediately after setting them?!

The first time leaving the harbour:

We’re going to the lock (Schleuse) and the waves are getting taller. At first, it’s funny and exciting; then your stomach starts its revenge, and then there’s…

The first time being seasick:

Most people are just lying on deck and/or vomiting. Even our medic got to feed the fish, who are probably quite happy now. Luckily, some people were spared and stepped in to cook and keep the ship running. Special thanks to Fynn, Kyrill, Norbert, Andre, Dieter, Jürgen, Paul, Malte, Maja, and some others we sadly forgot to mention. But it’s slowly getting better…

The first time on (night) watch:

Everyone is tired and trying not to fall asleep. Seasickness is still a problem, even though it isn’t as bad as before.

Altogether, it has been an exciting first full day on the ship, even though it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. May many more exciting days come!
