Classrooms and learning

The day started with a delicious breakfast. We had pancakes, toast and lots of delicious fruits like pineapple and watermelon. After that, school started at 08:00 with the distribution of the classes and a short introduction of the teachers.

My teacher is called Kat. We started the lesson with a round of Memory – a Spanish version, of course. Klara won and we continued with the lesson. We learned how to introduce ourselves, learned about the present tense, learned about nationalities and different kinds of countries. At 11:40, we were done with the lessons and had lunch.

Fruit tasting class

At 02:00, we had a fruit tasting class. First, we were divided into three groups. After that, our teacher Susanna showed us different kinds of fruits like manga, banano, maracuyá, tomate de palo, manzana de agua, uchuva, melón, carambola, granadilla, sandía, zapote, piña, mora and papaya.

Most of the fruits were really tasty and sweet, others were very bitter or sour and we didn’t like them as much as the sweet ones. Many people knew at least half of the fruits from home, but here in Costa Rica they are called differently. For example, the fruit that we know as mango is actually called manga. Mango is another fruit that is eaten with salt and is not sweet at all.

We also discussed the prices of fruit here compared to the fruit prices at home – the difference is crazy, because manga here costs one or two dollars and in Germany it is much more expensive. I think you know the prices there.

Free shore leave

After the fruit tasting, we had free shore leave. Some of us went to the supermarket and bought some new sweets and explored the city.

Dinner

For dinner, we had fries and chicken and for the veggies something with vegetables. It was very delicious and a meal we last had at home a long time ago.

Evening

In the evening, some of us played ping pong together as a group. That was very funny. And with that, the day ended so fast.
