A rainy day in Panama

Today was an interesting day. It was different from the others because, for the first time, we seriously started preparing for our next adventure: Costa Rica!

The morning began with our first surprise. It was raining and only 20°C. This is not the weather we expected in Panama and now our biggest concern is whether it will stay like this or if we can expect our beautiful Caribbean sunshine again.

As the day continued, we followed our usual morning routine on the Roald: Breakfast, cleaning and the start of our daily program.

By noon, two things were supposed to be done: Packing our bags for Costa Rica and returning our harnesses. Both tasks were quite challenging, considering that we had been using the harnesses for nearly three months and not everyone could remember which bag they belonged in.

As for packing, fortunately we were provided with a very detailed packing list to help us prepare for the next two weeks.

Surprisingly, there was a lot to consider: We will visit a coffee farm in the mountains, attend a language school in San José, explore the rainforest and take part in our individual adventures with our EXPI groups. These are very different experiences, yet we all want to bring only one backpack!

On top of that, we also have to pack our tents, which take up quite a lot of space. As you can see, we put a lot of thought into this. Still, the chaos was enormous, but at some point in the afternoon everyone finally finished!

“Besser spät als nie” ~ Dinner for One

A little late, we managed to film a great movie on the Roald: Dinner for One!

The afternoon flew by as great actors filmed our very own version of this classic New Year’s Eve movie. Not only was the acting fantastic, but the makeup and costumes were impressive as well.

Around 05:00, our Bergfest, also known as „Bunter Abend“, began. This is a fun evening to celebrate the halfway point of our journey and to say goodbye to our current crew. To make it a great night, everyone prepared something and the evening started with a wonderful poem by one of the crew members.

After that, we played several games such as „Der Dümmste fliegt“, „Topfschlagen“, apple (or cucumber) biting and the famous cucumber game.

After dinner, the fun continued with stop dance to children’s music! To end our wonderful evening, we watched various videos that were made throughout our journey, including our room tour, the Christmas-Pirate-movie and our self-made Dinner for One.

Now we are very excited for Costa Rica and unfortunately tomorrow we have to clean every little corner of our current home, the Roald.

13 Uhr – Ein Vortrag naht – geballtes Wissen feinster Art
14 Uhr – Ein Klo voll Kot – Andreas hilf uns in der Not!
15 Uhr – Gleich gibt es Kuchen – lass schon mal den Sitzsack suchen
16 Uhr – Das Deck geschruppt – der Rücken? Der ist jetzt kaputt
17 Uhr Sonnenschein – im Schatten will nun jeder sein
18 Uhr Abendbrot – ich fall jetzt gleich um wie tot
19 Uhr Sonne weg – hängt meine Matte schon an Deck?
08 Uhr Abends – Sternenhimmel – An Deck herrscht immer noch Gewimmel
09 Uhr Abends – Teigmacherwache – in der Kombüse geht es
voll zur Sache
10 Uhr Abends – Totenstille – Nicht immer Wind und kaum noch Wille
11 Uhr Abends – Der Teig wird groß – Gleich geht der Spass von vorne los!
