  • Seeing the ship for the first time in the harbor and being allowed to enter it for the first time

Vigo:

  • Going on land for the first time after ten days at sea

Portimão:

  • Having school on land in a T-shirt in the sunshine in November, knowing that your friends are freezing at home in Germany

Morocco:

  • How cheap everything is and how people live there

Tenerife:

  • Swimming in the harbor at Christmas

Cape Verde:

  • Swimming from the anchored boat to an island and then “capturing” it

Caribbean:

  • Arriving off Martinique after crossing the Atlantic and thinking we had to sail to our anchorage because the engine failed – luckily, that wasn’t the case
  • Seeing palm trees for the first time after crossing the Atlantic
  • Visiting the botanical garden with the most beautiful plants I have ever seen
  • Seeing hummingbirds up close

San Blas:

  • Realizing how far away from civilization people can live and seeing how they survive on their tiny islands
  • Camping on a deserted island and having a campfire in the evening

Panama/Costa Rica:

  • Eating Bribri pastries for breakfast with the Bribris
  • Dragging a boat for three hours through the jungle to a small town, where it was later picked up by a truck
  • Picking your own coffee from coffee plants
  • Painting a bridge at the coffee farm with OC-themed designs

Colombian Island:

  • Snorkeling over a coral reef

Cuba:

  • Experiencing a culture shock when it comes to cars and industry

Bermuda:

  • The friendliness of the people of Bermuda
  • Finally being able to do laundry after two weeks and having clean clothes again

Atlantic Crossing:

  • The Atlantic baptism with all its confusion
  • A super nice mid-Atlantic ball with an amazing atmosphere
  • Starry night watches on the Atlantic
  • Swimming in the Atlantic while seeing nothing but the ship
  • Making pancakes during the night watch because you missed them in the morning after sleeping until midday

General:

  • Sleeping on deck when anchored or in the harbor
  • Learning about new traditions
  • Having just three hours of lessons per day
  • Visiting other ships (for example, the Thor Heyerdahl)
  • Entering new countries
  • Getting new crew members
  • Experiencing the vastness of the Ocean alone
  • Visiting children from other countries
  • Realizing that sports are the same everywhere
  • Understanding that sports can be played without verbal communication
  • Eating fresh coconuts
  • Finally being allowed to shower again after a long time
  • Always having someone to talk to
