Yesterday…

…was quite a turbulent day. At breakfast we were told by the galley team that half a big bowl of overnight oats was eaten during the night, which came as quite a shock. Then at lunch Thomas announced a special meeting for 02:00, where everyone except Thees, who was informed beforehand, would be present.

At 02:00 sharp everyone met in the Messe, curious about what would be discussed. It started with Thomas telling us in quite a disappointed tone that the Mid-Atlantic Ball was cancelled as a disciplinary action against “Querfraß” (half a bowl of overnight oats as an example) and a lot of things said in many announcements over the last weeks, which I can’t remember well enough to be more reliable than a rumor.

That was followed by a small speech by André and another one by the teachers. The mood sank to the ocean floor after this, because everybody had been making plans on how to spend the evening. The evening/night watches had already organized themselves so each person could be at the ball for at least an hour and a half and the event team had of course been planning everything for weeks.

All that was followed by the Schüliversammlung with a heated discussion about the expi groups for Costa Rica and an afternoon snack of fruit.

Later that afternoon we had to take down the rah top sail and the rah sail because the rah has a little rip in the middle where it rubbed against the Vorstag. Then we set the jib on boom and the Klüver.

Until a special dinner of pizza, nothing noteworthy happened. But just as most of us sat down, a group of students came all dressed up like the ball would still happen. After dinner that group went onto the Vordeck with a music box to dance and more people put on the clothes they wanted to wear at the ball and joined (including me). We danced a lot until the sun set and then we realized it was the third Advent!

So we sang “Alle Jahre wieder” and “Kling Glöckchen” until the teachers told us to go back because it was too dark to stay on the Vordeck. We left reluctantly but happy that we had such a fun evening even though the ball was cancelled.

Today we switched school groups, meaning the group that had school on Monday now has watch on Monday. Nothing special or noteworthy happened otherwise. We just took down the jib on boom and the Klüver to set the rah top sail, to be able to sail to Martinique in a straight line.

We have almost no vegetables left except pumpkins, which left almost no choice for the galley team other than to make the all-time favorite: Pumpkin pasta. The final groups for Costa Rica were decided today too.

Vor zwei Tagen muss ich sagen war ein scheiß Tag aber dazu beim Telefoniren und in dem Brief mehr. Hab‘ euch alle mega doll lieb und wir hören uns schon bald.
