The riddle about the Galleydoor

As you may know our current cook is Rainer, a very polite and kind person. We all love his delicious food, but there is also his other side: His galleydoor-list. Nobody knows why he did it or what it should show and if you ask him you won’t get an answer. So what is this list for?

How it works

Sometimes Rainer randomly asks you a specific name of a person. For half of these people (but just half of them) he takes his permanent marker und writes the name anywhere on the door from the fridge. Some names stand in groups, others alone but none of them have anything to do with the friendships on board or make any sense. Another mystyrious thing about this is that there are still some people missing but crew and teacher are included (at least parts of them).

Theories

Since nobody knows the reason for the list some people developed theories about it. These are the most common ones on board:

Some people say Rainer started this list, just to learn the names and now continued for the attention.

There is also the rumour that it could be „the perfect galleyteams“, because there are never more than three people standing together.

Another theory says, it is better to be at the bottom than to be at the top and maybe there is also a connection to the sentence under the list: „The more comfortable a crew feels, the more loyal they sail through every storm.“

A fact is, that the position of the crewnames forms a triangle and the captain is in the middle of it. But is it on purpose or was it just a coincidence?

Kilians theory, also called keepsake-theory, is very popular at the moment and says that Rainer is creating his own keepsake at the moment so he is just gonna take the whole door with him in the end of the voyage.

Conclusion

All in all it‘s still a secret why Rainer made this list and there are a lot of mysterious things about this door. Maybe we are gonna find out more about it in Amsterdam but till then we can just speculate and believe whatever we want.

About today

Today, in the morning we had time to be creative and split up in different groups, so everyone was able to join their favourite group. For example we had a group, wich designed an Ocean College Monopoly version.

In the afternoon we had the first application talks and our projectleader and projectleaderassistents are chosen:

Projectleader: Emma, Stella, Darja, Onno

Assistents: Andrea, Wilma

The others had a lot of freetime and were free to do a short free-shore-leave.
