Roald Amundsen

The Roald Amundsen is a german brig with a steel hull. Its hull was built in 1952 as a deep-sea fishing logger and later used by the East German navy. After reunification, the association LebenLernen auf Segelschiffen (Learning to Live on Sailing Ships) purchased the ship at auction and had it converted into a tall ship in 1992. Since its maiden voyage in 1993 under Captain Immo von Schnurbein, the brig, with a total length of 49.8 meters, 18 sails covering 850 square meters, and a crew of 17 members and up to 31 trainees, has been sailing the seas. It has already covered over 450,000 nautical miles, participated in the Tall Ships’ Races several times, and is regularly moored in its home port of Eckernförde.
